Construction of the safe haven and technical rooms at the bottom of this shaft is complete, as is the installation of the structural steelwork access structure within the shaft itself. Construction of the head-house building will commence shortly.
Emergency shaft E6 (Illovo)
Construction of the safe haven and technical rooms at the bottom of this shaft is approaching completion. Mechanical and electrical installations are in hand.
Emergency shaft E7 (Rivonia Road western side, Sandton)
Construction of the safe haven and technical rooms at the bottom of this shaft is substantially complete. Installation of the structural steelwork access structure within the shaft itself will commence shortly.
SANDTON STATION
At 45 metres (15 storeys) below ground level, Sandton station is Gautrain’s deepest. Work rescheduling resulted in the station opening for public use on 8 June, in time to convey spectators arriving by air for the 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup, although not all finishing work is expected to be done until December 2010. This includes completion of the podium slab over the station complex, the remaining two-thirds of the parking facilities, the third platform to service the southbound line to the Rosebank and Park stations, an undercover taxi terminus and the final reinstatement of Rivonia Road.
Civil works, tracklaying and associated electrical & mechanical railway infrastructure works within the tunnels between Marlboro Portal and Sandton station are complete.
MUSHROOM FARM PARK
The temporary shaft at Mushroom Farm Park was provided to give access for tunnel construction in both north and south directions. All work carried out from this shaft has been completed and site establishment facilities have been
removed. Backfilling of the shaft is finished, and the community park reinstated, landscaped and upgraded.
MARLBORO PORTAL & STATION
Apart from final finishing and some landscaping, work in this area is complete.
