Prasa media statement, 9 February 2012:
“As the country awaits the commencement of the new rolling stock manufacturing procurement process by March this year, Prasa is planning to collect critical information on the South African supplier capability and capacity through the Local Supplier Market Survey and get feedback from international rolling manufactures on the Local Content Document through an online Market Engagement.
“The Local Supplier Market Survey information will be critical for future rolling stock manufacturing during the procurement process as it will enable them to form critical partnerships with local suppliers within the various spheres of rolling stock manufacturing based on the Local Supplier Market Survey outcomes. The Local Supplier Market Survey will focus on manufacturing; assembly and refurbishing as the key survey categories.
“The Local Content Document on the other hand will be aimed at Rolling Stock Manufactures (RSM) and will unpack the context, meaning and various aspects of localisation which has been set out as 65% minimum target by government. The information will be critical in the finalisation of the Request For Proposal (RFP) phase which will precede the procurement process and will be issued by end March 2012.
