Recently the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) decided to sell three residential properties it owns in Kenya, which would have realised meaningful sums. The buildings are located in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. But now, according to URC privatisation unit director David Ssebabi, the divestiture and reform implementation committee has halted the sale of the assets for “strategic reasons”.
He explained to a parliamentary committee that there is an “encumbrance” on at least one of the properties, and further detail is being sought.
